Got Game: How the Gamer Generation is Reshaping Business Forever Author: John C. Beck published 2004 Amazon
Amazon Synopsis: "Got Game" shows how growing up immersed in video games has profoundly shaped the attitudes and abilities of this new generation. Though little-noticed, these 90 million rising professionals, though sheer numbers, will inevitably dominate business - and are already changing the rules. While many of these changes are positive - such as more open communication and creative problem-solving - they have cause a generation gap that frustrates gamers and the boomers who manage them. "Got Game" identifies the distinct values and traits that define the gamer generation - from an increased appetite for risk to unexpected leadership skills - and reveals management techniques that leaders can use to bridge the generation gap and unleash gamers' hidden potential.
Greg's analysis: The Amazon Summary does a good job setting the stage for this book. As a gamer myself, I often found myself in agreement with the philosophies and behaviors identified by the author. While I think the intended audience for this book was a "baby boomer" manager with a younger gamer-employee, I think the book can also be used in the reverse to help a gamer understand where a baby-boomer is "coming from" in their approaches to things. It also helped bring into focus some of my own behaviors, and realize that they can be strengths and advantages which channeled appropriately. It's been a while since I read the book, so I can't get into any specifics, but I do remember thinking it was a worthwhile read when I closed it.

Thanks for the book reference Greg. I definitely see a gap in the attitudes of the "gamer generation" vs the "boomer generation". Each generation has different priorities and backgrounds and it is very important to find a way to bridge the gap. I'll have to look for this book in the library for a great read.
