The Wall Street Journal published a very interesting story a few weeks ago on how USA Basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski motivates his team. The Coach says:
"To really make a change stick, they have to feel it and to do that you have to create moments".
I was not able to attach the file due to its size, but if you do a Google search, you can easily find it.

I think when they feel it it gives them ownership and they buy in more to the idea.

Coaching and ralling your team for greatness is a gift. To coach a dynamic team to all work together for a common goal can be a challenge, but with the right spirit and attitude it can be done. This may age me, but can you imagine having a team leader/coach like Bobby Knight also known as The General, past Indiana University Men's Basketball Coach. He was a basketball fanatic. Although he was a winning coach, he also had another side. For example, he threw a chair in the middle of the court, would hit his players, get into very heated altercations with the press, etc. If I am not mistaken it was his own son that he hit during one of the games. Ultimately, people didn't want to play for him and the University saw him as volatile. He brought down the moral. He could no longer motivate his team to be successful. His style of leadership outweighed the championships that was won. It is funny how we remember certain things about a person after so many years. Know matter how much good you do, its the crazy stuff that is seared in peoples head.
I want people to want to work with me, to feel comfortable, and supported. For me, this requires listening, being empathetic, recognizing the team or individual for a job well done and good communication.
