What Great Managers do to Engage Employees
I read a few articles on different subjects for this assignment. I chose this to share with everyone.
Employee Engagement is know to be a critical issue in the workplace. We learned, and this article shared, that about 1/3 of the American workforce feels engaged at their jobs. Everyone should desire to be engaged at the work. It is important for every aspect of a companies business. The first line of employee engagement is their manager. There are a few ways managers can help create an environment that encourages employee engagement. Communication with employees helps create a healthy relationship. Managers need to communicate both work related information like roles and responsibilities but also need to attempt to get the know their employees on a personal level. Employees that managers frequently communicate with are more comfortable coming to their manager for any reason. Bottom line is Employees need to feel cared about. Managers that are great and creating engagement also make it a priority to be clear with the expectation of their employees, providing feedback and frequency performance reviews are ways to perform this task. Employee development can also be used to help create engagement, this article has the stance that further development and application of strengths with go further than working on weakness.
I have learned about some of these engagement creating devices through my career and I feel that they are on point and can be utilized as a leader to improve engagement within employees.

Daniel, thank you for sharing your article review summary. The topic of employee engagement is important for managers to focus on in order to create an environment where employees feel important and cared about. This sets the stage for productive employees that will work harder and be high performers because they feel that they're work is important and valued.

Thank you, thank you thanks you!!! I went into AMP struggling with how to engage employees. I left it still struggling a bit but with some ideas. This is great. I love your insight about how managers/leaders need to be engaged as the first line of engagement. People follow the example that is set for them. If a supervisor is disengaged then the employee will. The leaders set the tone for the workplace.

You are so correct, it is so important to be engage with your team. Managing task day in and day out can be exhausting, but leading a team by providing a clear expectation on what is needed is priceless. My current and past supervisors are awesome at clearly outlining what it is that they need and they allow me to use my judgment on how I am going to complete the task. The open door policy is our culture. I feel comfortable seeking their advice on project related activities in my area without judgment. My supervisors made it very clear that they are here to support and not make the job difficult. That is an attribute that I want to carried forward in a team leader role.
